How to Make Your Child's Trip to the Dentist a Great Experience
Many people are afraid of going to the dentist, but there's really no reason to be. The best way to alleviate fears of the dentist is to start early. Here are ways to make a dentist trip a positive experience for your kids.
Communicate and relax - We understand that a child’s first trip to the dentist can be daunting - an unfamiliar place, strange noises and equipment, and people they’ve never met. As a parent, the best way to prepare your child for their first dental visit is to be open about the visit and communicate beforehand. Explain to your child the importance of healthy teeth, and practice brushing before the visit so that they can become more familiar with process. Next, relax. Have your child take a few deep breathes (you can take a few, too!) - maybe tell him or her a funny joke that will make him or her smile and laugh.
Make it fun - Find a pediatric dentist that has a fun and welcoming office with lots of kid-friendly activities.
Make it an adventure - Come up with a story. Perhaps they're a treasure hunter or spy and to complete their mission they have to visit this strange (but fun!) office.
Make it worth their while - You don't have to bribe them beforehand, but if they have a particularly good visit, you could give them a treat as a reward.
